Friends

It hurts to wake up. I felt so bad only twice before and for different reasons. And I don't know how bad it would be, if I didn't have close friends. My best male friend explains for hours men's priorities which I cannot understand. My best girl-friend has patience to listen to all I am saying and is able ask logical and sharp questions, to help see things in a different way. Not sure for how long they can take it though...

Warsaw in foreigner's eyes

My friend asked recently a foreigner, who lives in Warsaw: 'why do you like it here so much?'
And he said - 'because it's like a big village. It is awake when it's time to work, and sleeps when it's time to sleep'. I would never think it's a reason to like Warsaw, but I agree.

Off we go

So we are leaving. Bye London :(
P.S. I must say that during the short stay I have not heard at all Polish language that I was expecting to hear everywhere. Maybe its the areas where we hung out or indeed many left.

A Heathrow post

I am waiting for my plane to Warsaw and just saw 2 bizzare things:
1) A multi-faith prayer room(!).
Like what - the jews, catholics, hindu and muslims praying together? Wishful thinking I am afraid.
2) A family toilet - for men, women and kids.
That is actually very useful. Where should a mother take a 7 year-old boy to pee? Mens? Or the Ladies?

Bye London (yes, it was quick)

So we decided we are not staying in London. The place is definitely NOT value for money. It is soooo expensive. A good London salary is necessary to really enjoy the place. We checked a couple of apartments for short-term and those that were nice and max zone 2 were soooo overpriced, and one for reasonable money we saw in zone 3 was disgusting! For the same money, let's say 1300 GBP per month for example in Thessaloniki or Warsaw we can rent a fantastic, huge apartment in the very centre, close to the beach. And the sun is granted! As my friend Paula said: first get a London matching salary, then stay. So next time we go, we have to have a big reserve of money OR a London salary. No, actually, both :)
Till next time.

Canary Wharf

Looking for an apartment we landed at Canary Wharf business area. It charmed me with the busy metropolitan character and water all around :) Full of busy people too :P

Sunday at Tate

On Sunday I went to the Tate Modern gallery and again crowds of people made walking around a bit difficult. I love the gallery building and ambience but I lost somehow most of my understanding for modern art or art to-be. Some things seem just ... crap!

Gloomy view from the gallery.

Disappointment

Last couple of days we have spent looking for flats and enjoying the cultural offer of London. But the former brought us down... All is sooo expensive here. We saw some apartments quite small. And I must say that for the same money instead of a small studio we will have an amazing house in Greece! We really do not know what to do now...

Day 3

So we decided to go yesterday to the Soho Theatre to see a comedy (which was very funny indeed). On the way back in the Soho and China town area I truly felt overwhelmed by the crowd, we were offered marihuana on the street, saw 2 transwestites dressed like kind of a snow-white and two kissing dwarfs. I felt like a villager coming to a big city! The thing is though I have been to or lived in a number of big cities and never felt like that. Just too much!

London baby

So here we are in London and together after a month apart :) First day was a mixture of excitement dominated quickly by tiredness. Good thing we got quickly local phone numbers and net connections. Second day - we have learnt that renting will not be that easy within reasonable budget for short term. That means stress till Monday (what if we DON'T find anything)...
