The abandoned Nicosia airport is a spooky and hearbreaking place in the buffer zone controlled by the UN. There is no acces to it. It used to operate from 1930 until the invasion in 1974. Since then it's a dead place. Only a dogs shelter is situated there on its outskirts (!). A colleague just sent me these pics - and he is right that they are heartbreaking.
